Around 18 months ago Flintshire started exploring the possibility of using a telematics vehicle tracking system on their fleet of gritters - largely because it became of increasing concern that there was no concrete evidence or record that gritting had taken place and what the spread rate on a particular road had been. With a rise in the number of accident related claims alleging roads had not been adequately gritted, Flintshire needed to be able to provide proof that roads had been treated adequately.
Exactrak’s telematic vehicle tracking system tells them how much salt was spread, on which roads and at what rate.
This information is available in real time, plus previous activity reports are easily accessible should they need
them.
Exactrak’s telematic vehicle tracking system provides the following:
Record of all control box functions
Route time
Salt sensor data
Spread rate/width
Exception information
Full salt stock management function
"Authorities should make use,
wherever possible, of
electronic vehicle location
systems together with
automatic recording of salt
spreading. This will provide
corroboration of service
delivery in cases where failure
to salt is alleged."
